Have you been to Area Four yet? - some of the tastiest pizza in the city - and I just don’t say that about all pizza. The restaurant has a hip, cool yet simplistic vibe.
The name Area Four comes from the four key ingredients that go into every pizza: starter + flour + water + salt. Then the dough ferments for 36 hours to get the thin crispy crust when fired.
Everything is cooked from scratch and the origins of the ingredients are not only known, but celebrated. The food is fresh and responsibly grown and sourced as all food should be.
One of their locations is in Cambridge on MIT’s campus - so you automatically feel “smarticles” as my sister would say. They have several other locations including one in the South End.
We started with drinks, naturally. I ordered the Beauty School Dropout complete with beautiful floating flowers. It was sweet and fruity and hit the spot on a warm summer day. My boyfriend ordered the Weary Traveler which was topped with snow cone looking ice and packed a punch.
After examining the menu carefully we ordered a large mushroom and fontina pizza, mac and cheese and a little gem goddess salad - gotta get those veggies in LOL.
The pizza base was a mushroom sauce which was topped with house made pecorino and gremolata cheese and then more fresh mushrooms and cheese. It was baked in a wood fired pizza oven until the cheese turned golden brown and was topped with basil. Two pieces was more than enough and very filling.
Because we didn’t already have enough cheese we put in an order for the homemade mac and cheese baked in a cast iron skillet and topped with focaccia bread crumbs. It was cheesy and hot and not overly creamy. Don't you wish you were eating this right now??
The little gem goddess salad - so light and creamy and packed with flavor from the easter egg radishes, cucumber and avocado - the pic didn't come out well, but trust me it was good!
It was a quick and satisfying meal and we got to watch all of the smart MIT students socialize and let loose a bit. The service was impeccable. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive and answered all of my annoying questions.
Girls night, date night, just because you don't feel like cooking - no matter the occasion Area Four needs to be on your restaurant list!
