oh, honey!(grow)

August 20, 2017

Honey I'mma let you in on a little secret (and be sure to tell everyone)! One of the freshest new spots in Boston just arrived in Fenway and it's about to be hugeee. You best hurry on over!

Honey Child

honeygrow in Fenway just opened a month ago and so obviously we had to take a taste for ourselves to see what all of the fuss was about. They already have several locations up and down the East Coast and a new spot in Chi town so naturally they needed to come to Boston too. A friend of mine had been to the one in Virginia and raved about the awesome concept, fresh food, and fast service and wow was she right!

Quite The Stir

You walk in to a welcoming quick serve restaurant filled with upbeat tunes that provides a relaxing oasis from the somewhat rowdy Fenway streets. Five kiosks greet you to place your order. The kiosk ordering is super easy to use and allows you to customize any menu item by simply selecting additional ingredients or removing ones that don't suit you with a simple swipe of the finger. honeygrow specializes in healthy, fresh, tasty stir frys, salads, juices and a honey bar. There are no freezers, that's how fresh the ingredients are and most of it is locally sourced! How many other places in the city can say that?!

We had the most welcoming manager. Joey told us the honeygrow story and about how much he loves the company's mission and the work environment. It is inviting, friendly and the best place he's ever worked. He is one of the few people I know who genuinely enjoys going to work every day (he enjoys it so much hat he gets to work 30 minutes early, presumably to dance around the restaurant juggling fresh fruit to their lively music).

What to choose, there were so many options! I decided on the sweet soy five spice stir fry but substituted out the turkey for chicken and added a few additional veggies. It was cooked in a wok and came served in a deep black bowl. The dish was fresh, healthy, a little bit sweet from the soy sauce and brown rice and had a bit of a crunch from the green beans, carrots and sesame seeds sprinkled on top. The bowl was massive and I couldn't finish it all, but it was delicious.

My boyfriend completely customized his dish which included spicy beef with fresh vegetables, brown rice and it was topped with toasted sesame seeds and pickled cucumber. It was in a spicy soy garlic sauce that really packed a punch. He loves all things spicy!

Juice, Juice Baby

honeygrow also sells several types of cold pressed juices and we tried the better off red drink (watermelon, beet, lemon and raspberry), orange you thirsty (orange, carrot, lemon and ginger) and the green is good (apple, spinach, cucumber, lemon and basil) which bae described as drinking a salad. Cold pressed juices if you aren't familiar, are full of fresh fruits and vegetables and they keep them cold to preserve the nutrients instead of heating them up and out of the food. They were all tasty, but the orange carrot one was my personal fav.

A Sweet Surprise

Next we chose two honeybars (think ice cream sundae, but with yogurt, fresh fruit and honey). I filled mine up with yogurt, granola, chocolate chips, blueberries, strawberries and bananas and topped it off with clover honey -you could eat this for breakfast or as dessert which is what we chose today. Bae's was filled with strawberries, bananas, toasted coconut and topped with wild flower honey. The fruit was very fresh and it was a light sweet treat to finish off our meal.

We can't say enough how much we enjoyed our first honeygrow experience. It definitely won't be our last. Next time you are looking for a quick, healthy bite before a Sox game, this is your spot.
